A club started at Garnet Valley High School made to create an anti-racist school environment, where all students of color are supported/seen.
How it started
Growing up in my predominantly white Pennsylvania high school, there were many instances of racism. I would hear many stories of where a teacher or student would say/do something racist, without any party truly held accountable. By the summer going into my Junior year of high school, I knew something had to change.
I then immediately organized a small group to start meeting in my basement to talk about their personal experiences and action. From there, we met with the principal and made it an official school organization titled HERE, Humanity in Ethnicity, Race and Equality.
